If you’re a fan of clean, green beauty, Tropic is worth checking out. Its founder, Susie Ma, was always passionate about natural skincare. Aged just 15 she sold home-made body creams in Greenwich market. In 2010 she appeared on The Apprentice and afterwards Lord Sugar invested in her new company.
Today there are 12,000 Tropic ambassadors offering over 100 products – all vegan, free from nasty chemicals and packed with plant based ingredients. The company is also carbon neutral and donates to charities and good causes. So when one of their ambassadors, Rosie Oretti, asked me to review a product, I jumped at the chance. She kindly sent me their Smoothing Cleanser.
I’m a huge believer in double cleansing with a cloth or flannel. So I’m always happy to try a new one, especially when it contains goodies like:
- Golden jojoba oil – the closest oil to skin’s own oil, this is deeply hydrating and helps restore skin’s natural pH balance.
- Green tea extract – potent antioxidants protect against free radicals and stimulate cell regeneration.
- Essential oils – eucalyptus, rosemary and chamomile are beneficial for skin’s health and I love the smell (although they’ve just brought out a fragrance free version for people who don’t get on with them).
The cleanser has a nice creamy texture, and although I could see the jojoba oil gleaming in the bathroom light, it doesn’t feel too rich or heavy. My face felt thoroughly cleansed and looked bright, fresh and soft, with no oily residue. It comes with a lovely organic bamboo cloth (which is optional, to help reduce waste).
Both the cleanser and cloth were wrapped in paper rather than plastic. Why on earth can’t more companies make this simple switch? The container is plastic, but at least it’s recyclable.
At just £16 I think the cleanser is excellent value. Tropic keeps prices as low as possible so that more people can benefit from clean, green skincare. That’s good news for all of us.
